Terms & Conditions
The agreement that applied between our customers and Sciencotonic Edu Pvt Ltd while we were trading.
These terms are a historical record. They applied while Sciencotonic Edu Pvt Ltd was trading. The company has ceased operations: no orders can be placed, no payments are taken and no kits can be shipped. This page is retained so that anyone who dealt with us while we were operating can see the terms that applied to them.
For employment verification, see our verification page. Any remaining question about a past purchase can be sent to verify@newtonbox.online.
What still applies
- The company is closed. Nothing on this site is for sale, there is no platform to log into, and no order can be placed or fulfilled.
- Data-deletion requests are still honoured. Write to verify@newtonbox.online and we will confirm once it is done. Our privacy policy sets out what we still hold.
- Employment verification for former staff runs through the employment verification page, which also carries the company record.
- The safety guidance in section 8 is worth keeping in mind by anyone building the projects from the free curriculum.
Everything below this point is the last version of the terms that was in force. It is reproduced as a record. It creates no ongoing obligation on anyone, because the service it describes no longer runs.
1. About these terms
These terms governed the use of the Newton Box website, the learning platform and any kit or course bought from us. The Service was operated by Sciencotonic Edu Pvt Ltd. By creating an account, placing an order or using the site, a customer accepted these terms.
2. Who could use the Service
Newton Box was intended for children in Grade 2 and above, and generally for children aged 7 and older. Accounts had to be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian, who was responsible for supervising the child's use of the kits and the platform and for all activity under the account.
3. Accounts
Customers agreed to give accurate information when registering and to keep it current, and were responsible for keeping their login credentials confidential. They were asked to tell us promptly if they believed an account had been used without permission. The platform has since been shut down, so there are no live accounts and no credentials in use.
4. Courses and kits
- Each course level included a physical kit, a comic book, lifetime access to the animated video lessons, and 16 hours of live classes delivered over a four-month duration.
- Kits were dispatched within 48 hours of the order being placed. Delivery timelines were as described in the Questions.
- Course content was accessed through the Skillcasper learning platform after logging in. That platform is no longer running. The lessons and the full curriculum are now published free on the home page, with no account and no login.
- Certificates were issued through the platform's certificate manager once a course was completed. Certificates can no longer be issued or reissued.
- We could improve or update course content, schedules and materials. Where a change materially affected what a customer had bought, we told them.
5. Pricing and payment
Prices were shown on the curriculum page and were quoted in the currency displayed at checkout. The kit and the course were priced separately. We accepted major cards, wallets and UPI, and EMI options could be selected at checkout where they were available. Customs duty, where it applied, was not included in our prices and was payable by the customer to the shipping provider. Those prices are still shown on the home page as a record of what the material used to cost; everything there is free now.
6. Shipping
We shipped through DHL and Blue Dart. Shipments took 10–14 working days on average from the order date. Tracking details appeared in the customer's dashboard, and the airway bill typically updated within 24–48 working hours of dispatch.
7. Returns, cancellations and refunds
Returns and refunds were governed by our Return & Refund Policy, which formed part of these terms and is kept alongside this page as a record.
8. Safety
Our kits were tested for safety before launch and were designed to be safe in normal use. They contained small components and electronics. The same care is worth taking with anything built from the curriculum we have released: keep small parts away from infants and children under 7, follow the instructions supplied with the material, and supervise young children throughout.
9. Intellectual property
The current position first, because it is the one that matters: the curriculum and the lessons have been released free. Teachers, parents and other STEM programmes are welcome to use them, copy them and adapt them for their own students. A credit to Newton Box is appreciated but not demanded, and you do not need to ask us first.
While we were trading it worked differently. All course material, comics, videos, curriculum documents, software, branding and site content were owned by Sciencotonic Edu Pvt Ltd or its licensors. A purchase gave the customer a personal, non-transferable licence to use them for their own child's learning, and copying, reselling, redistributing, publicly performing or making derivative works needed our written permission. That restriction is no longer how we want the material treated.
10. Acceptable use
While the platform was running, customers agreed:
- Not to share account credentials or course access with anyone outside their household.
- Not to upload unlawful, abusive or infringing content to the community or Q&A areas.
- Not to attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the platform.
We could suspend or terminate accounts that breached these terms. There is no platform and no account to suspend now.
11. Student work and media
We loved showcasing what our students built. We asked for a parent's or guardian's permission before publishing a child's project video, photograph or name. That permission can still be withdrawn. Write to verify@newtonbox.online and we will take the material down, without argument and without asking why.
12. Third-party services
The Service relied on third parties for payments, shipping, video hosting and course delivery, and their own terms applied to those parts of the experience. Those arrangements have all ended, apart from video hosting: the student videos linked from this site are still on YouTube and remain subject to YouTube's terms.
13. Disclaimers and liability
We worked hard to deliver a high-quality learning experience, but we did not guarantee any particular academic outcome or result. Except where the law did not allow it to be limited, our liability in connection with the Service was limited to the amount the customer had paid us for the course or kit in question. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
14. Changes to these terms
These terms are no longer updated. This page is the last version that was in force, kept as it stood so that anyone who dealt with us can see what applied to them.
15. Governing law
These terms were governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Tamil Nadu had jurisdiction over any dispute, unless mandatory local law in the customer's country of residence provided otherwise.
